Are
you registered to vote? If not,
on June 14 from 11 a.m.-5. pan.
come to the Super Duper in Park
Plaza, Ogdensburg. It
a
easy and
it's painless. The voter registration
drive is a public service brought to
you by the League of Women "Voters
of St. Lawrence County and the Og-
densburg Constitution Bicenten-
nial Commission, with the assis-
tance of the New York State Bicen-
tennial Commission.
As we read and watch the news
from around the world, where peo-
ple are struggling for free elections,
we can appreciate our freedom in
America.
Voting is a centerpiece of Ameri-
can democracy'. That is the power
citizens have, and without
it,
demo-
cracy collapses.
The right and responsibility to
vote, even in the United States, has
been a long struggle for many. In
1970, the 15th Amendment gave
the vote to blacks in all federal and
state elections. But it was not umtl
1964, with the passage of the 24th
Amendment that the poll tax or
property regulation for federal elec-
tions was abolished* thus truly ena-
bling blacks to vote.
In 1920 the 19th Amendment
gave women the right to vote and
from that fight evolved the League
of Women
"Voters,
whose purpose is
to inform citizens and actively par-
ticipate
in
government. It is open to
both men and women. .
The 26th Amendment, passed in
1971,
gave voting rights to 18 year
olds for the idea was that if they
were old enouugh to fight in
Vietnam, they were old enough to
make election choices.
So, ekercise the right to vote by
getting registered at Super Duper,
June 14.

Why
Pre-Arrangements?
Talking about death is often
difficult.
Yet a
death in the family may create problems
for survivors which can sometimes be
alleviated by discussion and pre-planning.
Funeral and burial arrangements are an
important consideration and should be
discussed openly and frankly. Pre-
arranging and sometimes pre-financing a
funeral are methods some people choose to
assist their survivors after death occurs.
