ROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
If the DVD/VCR COMBINATION UNITS does not perform properly when operated as instructed in this
Owner's Manual, check the player consulting the following checklist.
PROBLEM
No power.
The player does not respond to.
the remote control.
Timer recording is impossible.
Cannot go into Record mode.
Playback picture is partially noisy.
Cannot view a tape but the
audio is OK.
No, or poor, playback picture.
TV programs cannot be seen
normally.
Video or color fades in and out
when rnaldnga cepyof a videotape.
Cannot remove the tape.
No picture.
Disc cannot be played.
No sound.
No DTS sound.
Distorted picture.
Audio or subtitle language
does not match the set up
The camera angle cannot be
changed.
Audio or subtitle language can
not be changed.
"Prohibited icon" appears on the
screen, prohibiting an operation.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Make sure the power plug isconnected to an AC outlet.
Make sure the power is turned on.
Check if the power plug is connected to an AC outlet.
• Check the batteries in the remote control.
Aim the remote control directly at the remote sensor. If necessary, remove all the
obstacles between the sensor and the remote.
You have to be within 7 m of the player.
Check if the correct mode is selected. If not switchthe mode by pressing the DVD or
the VCR button, whichever you need, on the remote control.
Make sure the timer recordingis set correctly.
Make sure the power is off.
Make sure the VCR clock is set correctly.
Make sure the tape has a safetytab.If needed,coverthe hole withcellophanetape.
Put he playerinVCR mode. PresstheVCR button on the remotecontrolso thatthe green
VCR OUTPUT lightis lit.
Adjust trackingcontrolfor a betterpicturebypressingtheCHANNEL(/k/V) buttononthe
VCR.
Head cleaning may be necessary. Refer to "AUTO HEAD CLEANING".
Make sure the VCR is not in the Menu mode.
Select channel 3 or 4 on your TV, then press the VCR/TV button so that the VCR/TV
indicator on the VCR comes on.
Fine tune your TV.
Re-check the ANT IN and ANT.OUT connections. See page 14.
Press the VCR/TV button sothat the VCR/TV indicator on the VCR disappears.
Press the VCR button on the remote control to put it in the VCR mode. Check ifthe green
VCR OUTPUT light is lit.Then, set it to the TV position by pressing the VCR/T'V button.
The VCR/1-V light goes off.
You cannot copy a copyrighted video tape. You are experiencing copy guard protection.
• Check ifthe player is in the VCR mode. Ifnot, press the VCR I_tton on the remotecontrol
to switch the mode.
• Connect the video cables firmly.
Insert a correct video disc that plays on this player.
Pressthe DVD buttonon the remote control. Check if the DVD OUTPUT Lightis lit. Then
tryother DVD feature buttons.
Insert the disc.
Clean the disc.
Place the disc correctly,with the label side up.
• Cancel the parental lock or change the controllevel.
• Connect the audio cables firmly.
Turn the power of the audio component on.
Correct the audio output settings.
• Correct the input settings on the audio component.
Make sure to use a DIGITALAUDIO OUT jack when outputtingthe DTS audio.
Connect the player directly to the TV.
Thereare somecaseswherepicturesmaybe slightlydistorted, whicharenot a signof a mal-
function.
Although pictures may stopfor a moment, this is not a malfunction.
The selectedlanguageis not availablefor audio orsubtitlesontheDVD.

The DVDdoesnotcon_in sequencesrecordedfromdifferentcameraangles.
Thisis nota malfunction.
The DVDdoesnotcontainaudiosourceorsubtitlesintheselectedlanguage.

Some functions are not available in specific modes, but this is not a malfunction. Read the description in this
Owner s Manual for details on correct operations.
Playback from a desired track and ran_om playback are not available during program playback.
